A radical prototype from Canyon

32-inch wheels, a biplane handlebar, an upside-down fork – the Lux Era from CANYON was one of the most talked about bikes of Eurobike 2026. With the new concept bike, the brand rethinks mountain biking from the ground up. You can see the prototype exclusively in the Innovation Gallery, but: DO NOT TOUCH!

Cross-country racing has developed at breakneck speed in recent years – faster courses, faster lap times, riders willing to take bigger risks. Yet, CANYON is convinced the industry hasn’t kept pace. The believe optimising lightweight construction is no longer enough – the bike has to be reinvented from scratch. And that’s exactly what they’ve done with the Lux Era.

A cockpit like a biplane

To crouch even lower and cut down drag, pros have repeatedly taken their hands off the bars in the past and placed them on the fork instead – which can lead not only to dangerous handling, but also to disqualification. CANYON’s new cockpit features two stacked handlebar levels, reminiscent of the wings of a biplane. They open up several hand positions that let riders stay low, aerodynamic, and safe.

They’re a super hot topic currently in the bike scene: 32-inch wheels are already rolling at the first races and – after all the debate around 29ers – are once again splitting the bike industry. CANYON believes in the new, bigger dimension, provided the geometry is dialled in to match. The Lux Era comes with 32-inch wheels, which are meant to deliver noticeably better roll-over behaviour and more traction, and to hold onto speed far more efficiently once it's been built up. The fork stands on its head

Just as unfamiliar: the upside-down fork. It makes the front end narrow, clean, and aerodynamic, but it also promises more stiffness, more stable braking, less unsprung mass, and a more sensitive response.
