Is this the e-bike of the future?

At Eurobike 2026, HEPHA unveiled a radical concept e-bike that caused a stir well beyond the cycling media. At bike festa, you can check out the bike exclusively in the Innovation Gallery.

From the Eurobike premiere to bike festa

HEPHA's Urban X was one of the most talked-about bikes at this year’s Eurobike, the industry's flagship trade show in Frankfurt. The Munich based brand has designed a near-production prototype around radical simplification, ensuring easy, intuitive, and safe riding in the city.

Radically simple and intuitive

Instead of complex controls, multiple assist modes, a gear shifter, or even conventional brakes, the Urban X runs on a Pedal-Only-Ride principle. Starting, shifting, and braking are all controlled by pedalling. The brand-new mid-motor handles the continuously variable, automatic gear ratio entirely on its own.

A motor that brakes and recharges

The motor actively brakes along with you: in stop-and-go city traffic, the system slows down electrically through regenerative braking, recovering energy in the process and sparing the brakes. All you have to do is pedal – accelerating, coasting, and slowing down are all handled intuitively.

Ultra-fast charging

The Urban X is designed to reach 80% charge in just 15 minutes. AND: the charger is built right in. That means you can top up the battery at any public charging point or wall outlet while you run errands.

Theft becomes impossible

The high-tech immobilizer from Bavarian start-up 2Lock locks the hub and axle thus making the e-bike theft-proof (2Lock will also be at the bike festa Innovation Gallery). Additionally, if someone tries to tamper with the bike, a human voice raises the alarm. And even though carrying the bike away would be impossible and/or pointless, the Urban X also features an integrated GPS tracking. So you can leave the eBike standing around without a lock – all worry-free.

Distinctive design and ergonomics

The low seating position means you can easily put your feet on the ground at a red light or any stop & go-situation. The motor’s algorithm compensates for the biomechanical trade-offs of that posture. A comfortable bench seat replaces the classic saddle – and it is removable, so you can take it with you. And the Urban X has a clean, minimalist cockpit to underline the futuristic look.
